Attachment Trauma
What is attachment trauma?
Also known as Developmental Trauma, the cause of Attachment trauma is the severe disruption during the critical bonding process between a baby or child and their primary caregiver caused by overt abuse, neglect, or lack of emotional affection from the caregiver.
People who experience a frequent absence of their primary caregiver, parents' frequent arguments, family violence, severe illness, or death while the child is in the womb, birth, or childhood.
People with attachment trauma often feel unsafe, unworthy, have difficulty trusting others and have a constant fear of being abandoned. Because of it, people with attachment trauma often feel insecure in their relationship, whether a romantic relationship or friendship. They often feel fearful of being abandoned, leading them to have poor boundaries. Some may avoid investing in a relationship for fear of being hurt.
