Understanding Grief and loss

Grief is a natural response to loss: whether it is the loss of a loved one to death, relationship, pregnancy, job or way of life. Other experiences of loss may include but not limited to loss of mobility, transition, infertility and separation from friends and family. The more significant the loss, the more intense the grief is likely to be.

Grief may leave you feeling sad, angry, anxious, shocked, regretful, relieved, overwhelmed, isolated, irritable or numb. Grief occurs in different stages, and people may have varying experiences in each stage. The duration of grief may differ between people.

It may be grief over a recent loss or a loss that happened long ago. While grief is natural, if you find your grief affects your daily living and your relationship with a loved one, you should process your grief with a professional counsellor.

Restoring Peace provides counselling and psychotherapy services for grief and loss.
