Low Mood

Low mood is a state that is characterized by sadness, extreme tiredness, frustration, anxiety and/or a sense of hopelessness. People with low mood have low motivation to perform tasks or spend time with people. They lose interest in the activity they usually enjoy and isolate themselves from friends or loved ones.

Signs that a person has a low mood include:

  • Feeling frequently sad or moody

  • Moving or speaking slower than usual

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Engaging in physical activity such as exercising or brisk walking

  • Relaxation techniques

  • Positive self-talk

The duration of low mood varies from a few days to a few weeks. A low mood that persists for more than a few weeks may indicate a sign of depression, which requires professional help and sometimes medication. It is essential to seek help early to prevent it from becoming severe.
