Finding Yourself When You Feel Lost In Life

The most significant adventure of our lives is discovering who we are. The search for self-discovery is unique to everyone; it is finding what you want from your life, passion, core values, goals or interests.


Finding yourself may sound like an inherently self-centred goal, but it is actually an unselfish process that is at the root of everything we do in life. Below are five tips to help you in this journey of finding yourselves. When you feel lost and confused:


  • Accept and acknowledge your thoughts: the first step is recognising that you are in a state of loss. Acknowledge it.

  • Notice the thoughts and feelings that are affecting you right now: journalling them for future reference might be helpful.

  • Take time off to reflect and rediscover what you want.

  • List your strengths: What skills and qualities do you have?

  • List your passions: What gets you excited about life and gives you satisfaction?

  • Make sense of your past: The more you try to forget your past experiences, the more lost you may end up feeling.

  • Seek professional help: A professional counsellor or psychotherapist can help you process your experience and navigate new directions.
